Evaluation of the inland fisheries in Basrah province in Iraq during 2020-2021

The study was aimed to update the knowledge on fish landings of inland fisheries in Basrah province, Iraq. species composition, and total landings, their trends six landing sites throughout region were evaluated during year 2020-2021. Species compositions included seven cyprinids’ species, three cichlids’ mullet’s two from sparids silurids. exotic C. carpio, tilapias auratus dominated constituting 44.2% catch, whereas highly valued native (M. sharpeyi, L. xanthopterus, luteus A. grypus) forming only 12.4% catch. reached 2,427.78 t 2020 2,365.15 2021, these values higher than what recorded past years since 2009. This is due prevalence aliened increase fishing effort, such as numbers fishermen boats. Therefore, management point view, it essential enhance stocks minimize dispersal impacts some activate national regulating fishing, exploitation protection aquatic organisms improve fisheries.
